Small Boat Daily Rentals

Rental boats usually have a capacity of approximately six people.
Admit it... you have envied the small boats you see on the lake. Whether you're standing on the lungolago, or on a ferry heading somewhere, or watching a small motorboat anchor near Isola Madre for a swim, there's probably been a moment when you had wished it were you.
Well it can be! There are several small boat rental businesses along our portion of the lake, with a variety of small motor crafts that can be rented hourly, for a half-day, a whole day, or even longer. A boat license is not needed for this size motorboat, and all safety and other equipment is usually provided by the renters, including insurance.
Cantiere Nautico Taroni is the closest boat rental location to the center of Stresa. It is located just past the Carciano boat dock, heading in the Baveno direction.
Here's a list of a few nearby boat rental facilities to get you started with a search. Contact them by email or phone to see if they have what you want. It may also be helpful to stop in at the Stresa Tourist Office at the main boat dock and ask if they have any other rental recommendations.

So you see, it can be you! Imagine yourself, zipping along in your motorboat, living the Italian lake dream!

News Bites: Little Bits Of News From Stresa

Just enough news to enjoy with your cappuccino ...
Time for another cappuccino news break; this time let's talk about culture: cinema, music, and tourism.
An interesting award given to Stresa and Verbania, and in reality all the region of Piemonte, from the online hotel comparison website Trivago. Piemonte took first place, based on users' ratings, in online reputation of regions in Italy, that is, the quality and ease-of-use of online resources and planning. Within Piemonte, Stresa took second place prize, behind Alba, and Verbania came in fourth place, after Torino. The award was given recently in Milano, during the International Tourism Exchange. Nice to know that Stresa is so highly regarded online according to tourists. In my opinion, a reputation well-deserved.

Buon San Valentino 2013!

I love Stresa... You love Stresa too, right? But lest you should forget this, you can remember it always, per sempre, with these sweet alabaster heart paperweights. You can find them all year, not just today, at the beautiful shop that sells jewelry, glass, and stone items, facing Piazza Possi, in between Osteria dei Amici and the arch leading to the Friday market. You know where I mean.
A tutti i miei amici di Stresa Sights ... Buon San Valentino.

Photographs: Sunrise Over Lago Maggiore

Buongiorno... Good day to everyone...
And what a day it is. How can it be a bad day when it begins with a sunrise such as this? These are unretouched, unaltered photographs of sunrises over Lago Maggiore. They were sent to me by a friend who lives near the lake and witnesses many sunrises.
This friend is a fisherman, a painter, a volunteer firefighter on both land and boats. He rows on a crew team and he runs. He has co-written a book about the history of fishing on the lake. He does construction and painting work, often on the Borromean islands. He collects old postcards of the lake... Someday I must tell you about those....

Tre Domande: Three Questions With Simon And Donatella At The Stresa Italian Language School

Edit Post
Husband and wife team Donatella and Simon, at the Stresa Language School.
Can it be three years already since the Stresa Italian Language School first opened its doors? Yes, it can! And I'm happy to say that it is growing and going great. I assist the school di tanto in tanto, from time to time, with various things, but more importantly, I am happy to call Donatella, Simon, and the others at the school my friends. Simon has agreed to answer my Tre Domande, three questions, and tell us a little bit more about the school that he and his wife Donatella founded and run:
1. What were your original reasons for starting an Italian language school in Stresa?
Simon: Donatella and I had owned a language school in Milan, before migrating out to Stresa. We started the language school in Stresa three years ago when we realized that there was a huge (geographical) gap in the market, literally, in that there were no Italian language schools between Milan and the Swiss border. Furthermore, many such language schools in Italy tended to cater to a different profile of student: young people and students looking to combine a language course that lasted several weeks with a beach holiday or an experience in a big city. Stresa seemed like the ideal location to launch our own idea, especially in summer, as temperatures here are much more bearable than elsewhere in Italy.
