They are enjoying dinner, or maybe just drinks, at Lido Blu, while watching il tramonto, the sunset, over the Borromeo Gulf. The sun sets late here... the photo above was taken at about 9:00 pm, and the one below at about 9:30 pm. The lights twinkling across the water are those in Verbania, and the bottom photo is facing more west, towards Baveno.

Lido Blu is a casual bar and restaurant on the Lungolago across from the Regina Palace Hotel. The Lido Blu beach is 'hidden', semi-privately, beyond the wall of the restaurant, as shown in this beach post.
