Even I, who loves Stresa so much, was a bit surprised by this news item. Hotels.com, the leading online hotel reservation site, has Stresa placed at number 6 on its list of VIP Italian locations. What this list represents are those locations in Italy that not only show no signs of suffering due to the economy, but also have the most 'VIP' accommodations, that is, a high number of luxury hotel rooms, and therefore, a high average room rate. It's certainly true that Stresa has no shortage of world-famous hotels lining the lake: The Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees, the Hotel Regina, and Hotel Villa Aminta, to name a few.
Villa Aminta is located on Stresa's eastern side.
The good news about this ranking is that it indicates that Stresa has a very high demand among tourists, and has the rooms to attract the higher-paying 'VIP' tourist. The other good news (yes, there is no bad news) is that Stresa also has a large and diverse number of highly rated but more moderately priced hotel rooms, B&Bs, and campgrounds, such as Hotel Mon Toc, Hotel Elena and the family campground at Isolino, giving everyone a place to stay, making everyone, in fact, a VIP here. The chairman of the lake tourist office pointed out that the district has also won awards for the best camping and cottage accommodations in Italy.
The campground Isolino, perfect for families.
The top five locations on the Hotel.com VIP in Italy list were Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Lake Como, and Cernobbio. Following Stresa in positions 7 through 10 were Bellagio, Gardone, Viareggio, and Taormina.
We have a list on this blog of all of the major hotels in Stresa with links to their websites.
