The Big Daddy of all the summer jazz however, is Jazz Ascona, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. You have to take a look at the schedule to believe it. Every day, June 25 to July 5, from noon until late into the evening, a constant succession of internationally known artists will perform around this Swiss city. Ascona is a little over an hour from Stresa. The drive along the lake is, of course, gorgeous. I'd say this would make for a nice day drive into Switzerland. There are about 20 concerts per day. Many are in restaurants and bars; these are free, but of course the establishment expects you to purchase something. The ten special evening performances do require tickets.
