It's rather easy to drive or walk right past Villa Fedora, because on the street there's just an unassuming iron gate and a glimpse of park inside. But if you walk past, or haven't noticed it, you are missing one of the nicest beaches and parks in the area.
Even the name, Villa Fedora, doesn't give any hint that inside the gate, after a short stroll through the green lawns, and down a stone staircase, there is a wide sandy beach and a snack bar. The beach is long, curving around the little bay where the water is usually gentle. A few trees offer shade if you want. The beach is public; you can bring any chairs or equipment that you want and sit where you like. (But you can't bring your dog; pets are forbidden.) And old boat tower provides an additional sunbathing spot. Above the beach, a gravel path runs the length of the park.
The snack bar has seating along the path, as well as in front of the bar. There's plenty of shade here. Music is playing, not too soft or loud, from a kiosk.
Even if you're not swimming, it's a lovely spot to watch the activity and have an aperitivo, as the snack bar is open into the evening.
Villa Fedora is located in Baveno, about two kilometers from Stresa. The entrance is directly on the main road. You can arrive here easily on the bus from Stresa, or with the ferry. For cars, there is some free parking nearby.
The villa itself has some interesting history; you can read a bit of that here while resting on the sand: http://en.lagomaggiore.net/30/villa-fedora.htm
Today, the villa is the VCO Chamber of Commerce building.
